AI is doing a poor job unifying stuff

Post by NedBark »

It seems the Ai is generally ok with their points of investement usage but one problem they have is that they will generally not go for unification research even when the global is already done. They generally refuse to unify their countries and instead choose to fight over 9-unrest countries in Africa all game long. Even when they get Canada and USA or big parts of Europe they very rarely unify. It ends up being that the player will have a giga country and AIs have small insignificant ones that are harder to defend

Of course AI wont research those unification techs. A lot of them are expensive and there is tons of other research what AI finds more useful. As i seen in my games, they focus on story, space mining and habitats. Then mix of ship tech with national development techs.
Unification tech has low priority most likely because of the cost of it.
And even when AI would not follow story techs first. They will still pick the first cheaper thing, what they find more useful in the current situation.

If you want to speed up things, before devs patch it. Just control one country in every region. You will get unification research. Then feel free to abandon it. It's not guaranteed, but notifications are more common.

Best solution would be to make AI focus on like “home area” first, instead of picking countries all around the world based on GDP or boost. For example one “home area” could be based in France and AI which take it first, will be focused to take all countries in the EU first, instead of taking just France and Spain. Another “home areas” Could be in Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, Russia..….. it could be randomly rolled every new game where AI would focus first, before taking other countries around the world. .
